The Pennsylvania Parks Department identified a dangerous overhang in the Summer of 2023 at Ricketts Glen State Park that forced them to close the popular hiking trail to foot traffic. Due to the site’s remote and difficult to access location, regular clearing methods and machinery could not be utilized.

Merco utilized precision blasting methods to safely dislodge the rock overhang that threatened the trail below. After initial blasting, the Merco crew utilized hand tools to remove any loose debris and return the trail to a safe state. Merco was able to mobilize, blast, and remediate the trail in under a week allowing the park to reopen the trail with little delay.
